Why not be theoritical?? Democracy is a theory of government by representation so we are talking about a theory. Simply put in a democracy the people are left to solve their own problems, thus produce strong leadership. In Socialism the Government solves peoples problems[everybody works for the government] produces weak leadership, Dictatorship one man dictates to the people and a loss of ability to take part in government. In practice of course there are many other factors and differences in the structure of government. Here in America we have adopted some socialism [labor unions, welfare, child labor laws, etc] for protection of the citizens. We have a saying " Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely". Thus the 3 branches of government, even so corruption exist.

A true democracy is the best form of government but we in the US do not enjoy a true democracy. What we have is more of a representative republic. A true democracy means that 1 person has the same power politically as any other single person, but in the US, those with the money have all the power because they hold sway over the elected officials. Also, the electoral college (the method in which we elect our President) is greatly flawed and almost half of the votes cast or basically meaningless (the winning candidate gets all the electoral college votes for the entire state even if he/she only wins by a slight margin).

This is not to say that our system still not the best currently being practiced in the world, but it is a greatly flawed system. In theory, Communism should work well, but as proven by the former Soviet Union, theory and real life are not always the same thing.

Churchill used to say democracy was the worst form of government except for everything else. The problem with democracy is cheating. Here in the US we have the media owned by the Republicans--the big money interests--and it slants all the news coverage in favor of Republicans and against Democrats. Plus you have a corrupt court system where you have crooked Republican judges on the Supreme Court who steal elections for Republicans. There is very little point in voting. Its a fraud, an empty, meaningless ritual in America just like it was in the Soviet Union.

True Democracy is the road to Communism, according to Karl Marx. The reason is that you risk the mojority of voters demanding that the government take steps to meet the peoples needs.

For example, 7 citizens in a nation of ten are living ok, but struggle at times meeting bills etc. The other three citizens earn enough money to meet the needs of the entire street, with money left over. The 7 citizens realize that they have the majority and that they can force the government to divide the wealth. They can even force the government to take the excess and pay cheap foreign labor to do the work.

It's the road to communism.

The best system is like that established in the US Constitution. But with one caveat. It requires constant vigilance by the citizens - which means that our private media needs to be watched as well. We in the US have failed that responsibility, therefore we have all three branches of government who have been usurped by private globalist interests.

Corruption is a problem that will haunt any and all forms of government.

I dont think democracy is the absolute best form of government, but it is the best one to apply to the real world because it allows for the greatest good for the greatest number, without really oppressing the minority.
