Firstly, Phil, Malaysia is Malaysia, Singapore is Singapore, Kuala Lumpur (KL) is the Capital of Malaysia, it is in the Central of Penisular MaLaysia, and Singapore, being our neighbour, is South of the Peninsular. So you can only stop in KL when passing through Malaysia from north to south and end up in Singapore.

secondly, mixturenumber1, i think you are really mixed up!! there is no kidnapping of sorts here in Malaysia. get your mixture right! We might be a muslim country, but we are also a democratic multi racial, cultural, religion and language country. We all live in harmony together here. There might be some racist around, but we do live in harmony, hell, no one is perfect.

Thirdly, Malaysia is a developing country unlike Singapore, the things offered here, is different from Singapore, we might be neighbours but, there are differences. In singapore, you will see skyscrappers, beautiful buildings, abundance of shopping malls, high tech stuffs and so on, which you can find in any developed countries. Here in Malaysia, as we are still progressing, you will find a diversity of things you cant find in Singapore, we have long sandy beaches, enchanting island resorts, cooling highland resorts, unexplored virgin jungles/forest, wondrous mangrove habitats, the highest mountain in south East Asia, traditional villages, metropolitan towns, skyscrappers (KLCC/ Petronas Twin Towers (once the highest in the world)), and with all this, we all live in harmony. you will get the best of both worlds, nature and development here.

As our Malaysian Tourism Boards slogan says,
MALAYSIA = TRULY ASIA!

mixturenumber1, don't know where you got such info that muslim extremist kipnab cases happen in Malaysia, either you are wrongly informed or you are damn stupid idiot moron that believe only on hear-say! i believe Malaysia is much safer than wherever you come from if you checked your fact first ! And you said Singapore 'suppose' to be amazing mean you have not been there either! AND ViRg() you are a running dog of Singapore ! Whatever available in Singapore, Malaysia can offered but our more natural environment that you can't find it in Singapore, there got no mountains, cold highlands retreat, million years rain forest, beautiful marine life n white sandy beaches at wonderful islands etc etc ! n KL is 50% cheaper in shopping ! Anyway, Phil, please try to visit both [Kuala Lumpur]Malaysia n Singapore n tells the world whats your opinion ! By the way if you pass through Malaysia you would never able to see Singapore as its another country.

Kuala Lumpur (KL) and Singapore are quite different and if you have the opportunity you should visit both places. Both places have great food and great buys. KL is more 'south east asian' - like Bangkok. A little messy in the city planning but it is great discovering the city. Transport is easy with the skytrains and cheap taxis. There are big mega malls to walk around and cluster of small shops (like in Petaling Street) to explore.

Singapore is more metropolitan, cleaner and more organised. It is relatively more expensive but if you are game, local food is pretty affordable. Singapore has a fair share of malls, although not as big as those in KL, but they are easily accessible by the MRT (Singapore equivalent of the tube). It is a safe place to hang out even onto the wee hours of the night - if you can find enough things to do.

I do not think you will be disappointed with either one.

Well Kuala Lumpur is in Malaysia Singapore isn't.

Singapore is a damn sight more expensive than Kuala Lumpur, and Kuala Lumpur does have plenty to offer.

Spend at least a day in both if you have time.

Depends what you want. Both very busy cities but Singapore sophisticated and very clean with lots of expensive cocktails etc whereas Kuala Lumpar is quite smoggy and haphazard but has a cool travelling vibe. Check out South East Asia on a shoestring by lonely planet etc if you want a more informative decision.

I'm in S'pore now and just came from KL. S'pore is easier to walk around. KL is best done with a car or tour. It's highways crowd out sidewalks. I do like both. KL is cheaper. Both offer interesting looks at several cultures living side by side, delicious foods, and tropical weather.

Both are fun. I think Síngaporeans have a slightly better command of English if that matters.

Depends on your likes ! I prefer SIngapore for the food , night life , better museums , great Botanical Garden & night zoo. But KL is good enough for a couple of days. And ofcourse there is more to see outside the city . If you don't like hot weather - don't go to either.
