I would get the smallest nano I think it's 2 Gig. It has the same interface as a regular Ipod. It will keep them entertained in car trips. It's not that expensive. And unlike the Shuffle it will let them pick which song they want to hear at any given time. Unlike the shuffle when It just shuffles them around in a random order.

Even an 11 year old should be spared the frustrations one 'might' have with the iPod Shuffle. On the other hand an iPod video is costly(to invest for a kid) and you know what happens when kids mingle with video...Plus the capacity is way too much.
If your base requisit is an iPod, the Nano is your best bet. Try to get the lowest capacity version(which has enough style to still be a great gift), in which case you'll probably save money too.
The Nano has photo viewing capability, but no video viewing (don't know if a firmware upgrade'll solve this, probably not)
The audio is really good as usual(better than the mini) and the nano has the unmistakable 'cool' factor all kids want in their gadgets. So go with the nano if an iPod is your base requisit (which is a good thing), otherwise you could go with another good brand name(like Creative, iRiver, etc.)

ALWAYS go with the iPod video. It may seem expensive at first, but the investment (around $300) is well worth it. The 30 GB size will probably be enough for a long time.

an nano has 240 songs (cheapest) one has like 500 songs and one has 1,000 songs and you can put photos on it too and its the smallest and the cutiest. And it has a screen. and has the album cover on it when the song plays. Hope that helps!!

iPod nano (2GB) will be good for an 11 year old.
Because it is economical and 2GB is enough for a 'lil angel'
