What country are you in when you are on the internet? - Ignore everything you see on the TV and read in newspapers. Now what freedom of speech do you have?

Is that freedom any less or more than existed 10-20 years ago?

I would argue you have a greater freedom of speech than has ever been in existence since the invention of the internet. How that freedom is policed is causing concern to all sorts of religions and Governments who thrive on mis-information and incorrect information.

You will still find posts deleted, and accounts terminated because the "Government" (via it's internet police), determine that your comments are either not politically correct or are offensive to somebody else or another company.

What you see on the internet is not necessarily what everyone else sees. Therefore, you should be aware that it could be tailored to your particular location or IP address.

What does freedom of speech mean? - It means nothing if nobody can hear you speak!

We have ALLREADY lost it.

It all started back in the nineties when we (the new generation or generation Xrs if you prefer) believed that all the battles regarding freedom in the western world have been won and there is nothing more to wait for. We ubused freedom of speech and many other freedoms our parents have battled for and now everything is gradually being taken away from us. Nobody has taken serioucely that fighting for freedom NEVER ends!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am in a constant readiness to fight for my freedom of speach, the freedom of my coutry, MY FREEDOMS AND RIGHTS!!! Yet I am being cautious not to forget my responsibilities and I have stoped provoking against my own freedom by just being cool and don't ubuse IT.

Sure, we see restriction of a sort, but no one here is going to be thrown in jail, tortured, killed for speaking his/her mind. I'm no fan of the current state of affairs, but let's not lose perspective. The very fact that we can have this discussion demonstrates a basic degree of free speech.
Make no mistake, however, there are those who would, while claiming to act in the name of freedom, shut down all useful discourse. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.

interestingly enough, speech/opinions where dictated by the church... now it seems that the media dictate and they clearly love the power, even though most of what they write is sensationalised rubbish. even when they are clearly 'wrong' in their angle... no one will tolerate another person speaking out because it seems people only feel safe if there is someone telling them what to think, even if they disagree.... by discrediting it, you take away the anchor.
basically it has become a mess... a psychological prison, and to cap it off, white people can't express an opinion about another person of a different race without being racist, but another race can say what they like about a white person... an english person is racist if he flies the st george flag etc!!!! and if you are a muslim, well, of course what else can you be but a terrorist.... but no one will be branded a racist for calling you that.
the double standards and hypocrisy drove me nuts so i left. the shame of it all is that most of it is self imposed... people are like sheep, but they are like that because they want to be like that. and the scarier the politics get, the more sheep like they want to become cos it is easier than accepting the truth.

freedom of speech in this country is a right which has double standards. the biggest example i can think of is Abu Hamza preaching hatred against non-muslims which led to him being arrested and deported when BNP are doing the exact same preaching hatred but because the BNP are doing it agianst muslims its ok, the BNP leaders can be judged as innocent by the courts because it is freedom of speech. the hypocricy of our society is unbelievable.

Did you actually think we had it to begin with? I think the world is too PC to tolerate any free speech. It is just a nice little phrase to throw about to make us feel free and liberated. So sorry...
