I'd switch from milk to water.
Cut out all sugar drinks like fruit juice, soda, etc. even 100% real friut juice has a lot of sugar. Cut out all foods that have partially hydrogenated vegitable shortening (which is basically any prodcut that you've ever seen in a vending machine).
Run on the treadmill every day for 20 mins no matter how borning it is.
Eat normally (except stay away from sugar and hyrog veg shortening) but just eat smaller portions. Don't supersize. If you do Mcdonnalds, get a diet soda and skip the fries. Who says you have to have fries with your fast food meal...it's a habbit not a requirement. If you go to Subway, get the sub and a diet soda, skip the chips. Who says you have to have chips to round out a meal at Subway? If you ever think your meal was not enough, think, can my body sustain itself on this? The answer will be yes.
If you eat at a restaurant, in general the portions are 3X too big, so eat 1/3 or 1/2 and take the rest home for a second meal.
If you have a sweet tooth, look for products sweetened with Splenda so you have the satisfaction of soemthing sweekt but not the calories of sugar.

Well, as you may already know, basically to lose weight you gotta be burning more calories than you're taking in. It might be a good idea to count, on average, how many calories you take in a day, and then consider how rapidly you wanna lose the weight. I think basically if you consume about 250-500 calories less than what you're currently at (and continue being as active as you are), or if you increase the amount of calories you burn by 250-500 a day, you'll lose a pound or two a day. From what I've read and heard, any more than that can be dangerous. There are plenty of sites where you can check exactly how many calories you need to burn, i recommend http://www.caloriesperhour.com/
This site also has a decent list of different activities you can do to lose the weight: http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/jumpsite/calculat.htm
Biking, running and martial arts seem to be the best ways to go. Calisthenics also works.

I workout (cardio and weights) 6 days a week, and I also follow an "eating plan" this has improved my cardio vascular health and I have also lost weight.
The key in working out is to keep your heart rate in the target zone for either weight loss or aerobic conditioning (while doing cardio) and to continually challenge yourself while lifting so that you feel muscle fatigue. If you don't do these things in your workout you won't see results.
What you eat is just as important as how you work out. Focus your diet on veggies and fruits primarily and throw in beans, nuts, lean protein (chicken, fish, tofu), and cut out processed foods, oil, salt, and fatty dairy products.

Hi
This simple plan really worked for me so here goes,
If you are serious about losing weight, the calories in the food you eat should be less than the energy you use. You will have to increase your metabolic rate now, and plan your diet carefully.
Formulate your own weight loss plan and you will lose weight faster. More details available at http://tinyurl.com/m7ckx
Good luck

run 3x week
notice i didn't say jog. control you calories, but don't "diet", just eat sensible portions of regular healthy food. on the off days from running do calisthenics (eg pushups, squats, jumping jacks etc.)
write your own routine and stick with it. you will see results if you are honestly trying. othewise, spend $50 on a book you will never use or join a gym and quit in 2 months.

you really gotta go heavy on the cardio if you're trying to lose weight, plus working out adds muscle mass and that weighs more so you should watch for changes not necessarily the scales.
