I feed him everyday, food like romaine lettuce, carrots, peas, greenbeans, corn, and i try to feed him bannanas, and strawberries, but he usually dosent eat them. Also, i have powder and pellet supplements. I have a UV light, and a day time and nighttime light for him to bask in. I dont have a hot rock, just a big one i found outside. I take him outside during summer(on his harness), he swims and walks around. He lets me hold him, but he seems to be really scared sometimes. I have been trying to get him used to being held by people, but it dosent seem to be working. I dont know the exact size of this tank but it is 3feet(length), 1 foot(width), and 1foot 2 inches (height). Also, he sleeps a lot, it's 10am now and he's laying down sleeping. I feel like he's not happy and i want to make his life better. So PLEASE HELP!!! (and does anyone know how to tell the sex of an iguana?)

We had an Iguana IZZY we rescued from a Pet store she was 6 years old and had broke off her whip she was living with 4 other iguanas in a cage 6 feet tall and 2X3 WAY too small for any iguana her size let alone sharing this space with any one else. She was so kind and gentle you could pick her up and carry her aound like a baby.......... the OTHER EVIL iganuna we had Org. Had broke his tail as well (same pet store) his tail was deformed. He was 3 years old not tame at all. Izzy love to eat Red (Red the best) and green peppers, Kabacha squash (other squash too---kabacha the best makes their color really bright green) collard greens and other greens-- Mustard, etc, green beans, snow peas occassionally grapes. Igauana are VEGETARIANS so NEVER feed them ANY animal protein it can put them unto renal failure......their kidneys will shut down and they will die!!!!!!!!

Ours did not like to eat bananas or strawberries either. Do not feed citrus fruits it burns their mouths (too much acid). Feed grapes only for treats beacuse they are too high in oxalates. NOTE: Feeding Romaine has NO nutritional value only adds water to their diet ----use only incase of emergancies. Feeding corn gives them the craps.

My hubby built a 8 feet tall cage and 4x4 for them had tree branches and crates to crawl on.

Unfortunately Izzy fell and broke her tail right by her hips (we think my daughter had something to do with this) and Org was mean to Izzy (Org was EVIL) and mistreated her so we had to get rid of him. Izzy never fully recoverd (she couldn't climb very well and could not poop for 3 months) and finally she died we had her for only just one year but she was the best of the 5 lizzards we had....we still have the rest......... 1 chinese water dragon Puff and two bearded drogons Spike and Baby

You don't say how old he is, so I assume he is very young(by his tank size) He will tame down some as he matures. At young ages all lizards feel threatened by bigger animals(including people) In the wild, they are eaten by almost anything that is bigger and can catch him, so you are fighting his survival instincts!

It sounds like his basic needs are met, but maybe offer more food choices. Spinach, turnip greens, dandelions(greens and blossoms) and many flowers are really relished by iguanas.

Also make sure his tank has hide spots and some climbing vines. Iguanas like to climb, and at this age also like to hide. If he can't climb and hide, he will get stressed.

Also remember they do tend to sleep quite a bit. They sleep and wake several times a day.

You can check the message boards at www.kingsnake.com for more information. There are alot of Iguana people there who can help you more than I can!

You will need a much bigger home before long as he is going to grow to over 6ft in length Apart from that you seem to be doing things right. Sexing can be done by looking at the inside of the thighs on his rear legs. A male will have large femoral pores on the inside of his thighs and above the cloaca. The female will not. Also the male develops much bigger cheek patches and his spine ridge will be much longer and the spines are thicker.

well iguanas like to be on the run my iguanas have their own room to hang out in during the day. at night in the cages they go. so maybe let you iguana have a special safe place outside the cage to hang out in for awhile. maybe that will cheer it up.
