Pick up Teen Vogue and In-style for ideas, and find the common basics that they're recommending for this season. Then make a wardrobe "backbone" of these pieces and learn how to accessorize - go to garage sales and find cool old cashmere sweaters, big broaches, great vintage overcoats. Make it a habit to have top quality pieces to wear, and one - of - a kind elements to add to show your personality and savvy. Garage sales and Salvation Army stretch your budget, too.

Learn to sew, if you have a machine to access. It's amazing what you can do by tailoring things to fit you better. My daughter takes tops that she finds - things that are funky prints, like from the 60's, and sews side seams in them so they'll fit her (she's small) and for .50 cents she has fabulous tops to wear with simple black pants and flats. She's your age.

She was inspired by reading about Audrey Hepburn - check out a book on her in the library. It's said that Hepburn had about five outfits (yet she always looked like a jillion dollars) because she knew how to accessorize. It's worth researching some of the fashion greats before you spend. Simple black pants, shoes, a top that fit you well and have some staying power (buy good fabric - natural is best - wool, cotton (be aware of shrinkage) - rayon can pill if you want to wear it a lot). Don't buy a lot - buy with care. And then go wild on accessories. The magazines will give you visuals. Have fun!

You might want to try a store that specialized in purses and other bags.

I don't know what you consider medium size or girly, but you might want to stick with basic black and/or brown instead of colorful styles, they will go with more things. While carrying a purse is practical, you don't want to be a fashion blunder when you have a pink purse and you are wearing blue.

A shoulder strap will make it easier to carry than a clutch or handbag, since you will be probably be carrying books or a book bag from class to class. Leather or canvas are more durable, and will hold up better than a fabric one. You'll probably be putting it on the floor during class. To get a more girly look, maybe try styles that have gold or silver accents, like a chain strap, those are in style.

If you can't find anything in your local stores, and you don't see anything you like on line, try eBay, consignment stores, flea markets, and discount stores like TJ Maxx. You can find new bags for cheap, and in many styles that aren't being made. A great style doesn't have to be what's on the shelf.

hey your avatar looks like mine!! haha- the best is tj maxx or marshalls they even have dooney and burke bags at reduced prices. I personally dont get the vera bradley hype and wouldn't recomend it. I luv coach, a wristlet is lke $40 or less if you find an outlet store and you can throw it in your bookbag to not have so much to carry or even though its low on the fashion totem pole, I've noticed target has started getting designers for just their stores they have cute retro stuff... good luck! You can't really go wrong as long as you can justify it with your outfit/style!!

well between that price range u have a couple of choices....
1. you could go to target or walmart. u could find something nice there.
2. or you can go to ross or tj max. these places sell highend merchandise at discounted prices. but b careful, these items have some imperfections. meaning that ther is something wrong with them. but it mite b something small like on the inside of the purse, that no one can tell.
