While I have not seen many of the cartoons drawn, I fail to see how cartoon of the holocaust can be compared to cartoons of mohammad.

One is drawing a caricature, and possibly mocking, of a prophet. The other is drawing caracatures and possibly mocking the death fo 12 million people (6 million jews, and 6 milion gays, lesbians, black, gypsies, etc).

While I unsderstand that drawing any picture of mohammad, let alone a cartoon is insulting, i fail to see how the two can be compared.

Wouldn't a more accurate test be to draw cartoon of, say Jesus, or Moses? How can caricaturing mass murder be compared to caracaturing a religious figure?

I agree that this IS an expression of free speech, but there are MANy who had family members killed in the holocaust. Drawings of Mohammad, nomatter how insulting, do NOT dredge up the horrors of death.

The cartoons of the prophet were distasteful.

The cartoons of the holocaust were probably distasteful, too.

I don't think any open-minded non-xenophobe (Muslim, Jew, or other) can debate that.

The reason for the stupid contest was because Iran believes that in the west it's open season on Islam and Muslim sensitivities (which really does seem to be the case) .... but any time someone says anything about Israel (an apartheid state with a democratically elected government where Jews are terrifying a colonized Palestinian people into submission) .... newspapers and politicians scream ANTI-SEMITISM ..... in fact look how Mel Gibson was crucified for what he said about the Jews when he was drunk (come on people, how many times have you said stupid things when you are drunk) ....

Iran only wanted to see if offensive filth directed at Muslims and toted as free speech, would also fly against Jews.

super submit; have a huge call! I consider you that Jews and Muslims CAN stay at the same time peacefully; it rather is befell interior the previous and please G-d, it rather is going to take place lower back. it rather is the extremists on the two factors that reason the topics. the rather some solutions on your submit are rather irritating. at the start: to ultimate the fact somebody made approximately 'Jews helping the Nazis' - utter rubbish. there have been some Jews interior the camps who have been advised that until eventually they executed particular initiatives then their entire families may be slaughtered - so they complied. it rather is a diverse count. yet another answerer has as quickly as greater reported that Jews 'continually' point out the Holocaust - it rather is the different, in actuality. in this website each time the Holocaust is stated it rather is in a submit via a non Jew. that's high quality, yet why do human beings keep asking we Jews to end speaking approximately it - while it rather is not even us elevating the subject count??? the youngster - whats up you, pay attention up a minute: i admire your posts, they are super, and your solutions are often between the terrific - yet your reaction right here replaced right into somewhat aggressive and it replaced into pointless! those are emotive subjects, all of us simmer somewhat - yet take it down a notch! all of us nevertheless luv ya, in spite of the undeniable fact that!

What Iran is doing is the definition of pure evil. As you see from previous answers, many people either don't care or are willing to defend this. If a country had a contest to make fun of blacks who were lynched, there would be an international outcry. But there's a double standard when it comes to jews. History is repeating itself. The Iranian fascist knows exactly what he's doing. I hope we don't wait too long again, as we did in WW2, and stop this very dangerous threat to Western civilization before it becomes far more serious.

Religion has become a very personal matter to people, if you talk about someones religion in a bad way its almost like a stab to the heart, and to their faith. I think the fact Muslims are willing to compare such an act to mass murder shows how much their prophet means to them. The majority of religious believers are willing to kill to protect their religion. I personally believe most of all wars in human history have had some religious debate involved. I don't think religion was ever intended to be a violent belief but by the looks of things it has begun a new era on the meaning of 'extreme believers or as we now hear extremists'. I don't think you should worry about the fact that the mocking of an Islamic sacred prophet was made equivalent to the mocking of a mass murder, I think you should be more concerned about why such personal, sacred and delicate matters were mocked at in the first place.

The idea behind their competition isn't that the subject matter is comparable.

Its that the west made the point that 'Free Speech' takes priority over the fact that some people may be offended by the subject matter.

The Iranians simply took that idea to its logical extreme.

The most offensive idea I think nearly anyone can come up with is denial of the holocaust.

So this is truly a very offensive but very good test of our belief in the sanctity of free speech.

At the same time, it furthers the Iranian agenda of anti-semitism. Pretty clever of them isn't it?

Do you realy think the cartoons are meant to mock Gypsies etc.? I don't think so, and I don't think they are meant to mock Jewish victims ether. It is rightly meant to mock the monopoly some Jews and Jewish organizations siezed over the Holocaust. How can those who contaminate the brains of US school children with Philip cohen's lies (that "only about 20000" died in the Jasenovac death camp, and that Serbs "cooperated with the Nazis". In fact General Mihailovic commited one act of "cooperation with the Nazis"-by giving amnesty to Alija Izetbegovic, who was then an SS troop and captured by Gen. Mihailovic's underground) and also criticise Iran's cartoons?

Moslems would never poke fun at religious figures, be they Moses, Jesus or Buddah. It is against their beliefs and culture.

While I believe that we have to address the myth that only Jews have been victims of pure evil unleashed, and that other ethnic groups and religious minorities have been subjected throughout History to the worst form of suffering and humiliation imaginable, notably Israel's neighbours, I would not recommend caricatures as the best means to tackle the subject. We have to show a bit of respect for the dead, irrespective of their ethnic or religious background.
