In other words, is it possible to feel as happy/in love, etc in real life as in your dreams, or are the emotions in dreams more/less intense?

I'm speaking in less of a clinical and more of a spiritual (I guess) sense.

Or... is it possible to dream of a situation that is more perfect than real life could ever be?

Dreams seem to be the connection between your unconsciousness and your conscious mind. Do to the very short objective time spand of dreams, the emotional content is often intensified to get the "same effect."
Many people report that the emotions that they feel in their dreams is more pure (less mixed) and more intense than anything they have felt while awake. There is no scientific method to measure this intensity.

I daydream a lot (see my latest question here in the psychology area) and I would have to say that my dreams are more intense because those amazing things happen *more often*. I have one of the most fantastic imaginations of anyone you will ever meet and I can dream up anything... I can feel so many things and imagine many situations I've never been in. But those dramatic things rarely happen in my actual life... but when they do... they feel stronger than in the dream because it's real and ALL of my senses are being used, not just imagined senses.

Yes, generally your dreams are controlled by your emotions or state of mind. Most of the time if you are feeling anxious or stressed (for example) this feeling will be more intense in your dreams. These feelings in your dreams are usually a result of something else (something symbolic) other than what caused that feeling in your waking life. For example, usually if you lose a tooth or teeth (or you have something wrong with your teeth) in a dream, it means you're under a lot of stress in your waking life, although it's probably not about your teeth.

during dreaming your sub conscience has taken over, i feel that dreams are by and far more intense in feeling and action than what we would do if awake and our "thinking" conscience were in control.
