How do you feel about the Cos's statements. Is he a jaded upperclass AA, or the voice of truth.

He has made a divide in the AA community by his statements. Some folks are calling for his head while others are in complete agreeance with him. What do you think, agree or disagree??

I agree with Dr. Cosby. Its almost unbelievable that any rational member of the Black community could disagree.

He is certainly not the first person nor the first African American leader to make the argument he advances.

My friend, the late great Gregg Freeman, columnist for the St. Louis Post Dispatch once said that the KKK couldn't have invented a better way to destroy Black people than the popular culture being expressed by some African Americans. He summed it up in a column on 2/19/02 saying "We've got to learn how to settle our disputes in ways other than blowing folks away...Your behavior is unacceptable and its time for the rest of us to stop tolerating it."

Everyone is responsbile for his own actions and every group needs to hold its members responsible for their actions. Ignoring the fact that much of what troubles the Black community is a matter of individual choice and pretending that it is enough to simply blame racism and history leads nowhere.

Dr. Cosby deserves to be lauded for taking this stand and speaking out. He understands that silence is death.

I agree. The things he's says are directed at, but don't apply just to AAs. There a lot of other races sitting on their butts collecting public assistance too! It was meant to be a temporary helping hand, not a lifestyle.

I agree!! He is calling black men to take responsibility. The only people that should be upset are the ones who are passive and don't care about their people or those mislead to believe that African-American have somehow 'arrived'. When in actuality we are still striving.

In my opinion, none of his comments have been judgemental. Just the dead on truth. They have, also, been in the appropriate medium and place, unlike some black politicians who talk about our issues in the company of other ethnicities. He has brought the issues straight to the source!!!!

Thanks Bill!

Here's a summary of Bill Cosby's message to young black men:

Stay in school
Stay out of trouble
Don't idolize prison culture

Sounds good to me. Who would disagree with that?
