Not Racially but yes discriminated against. I should of gained a promotion but they gave it to someone else who didn't deserve it. I spoke to the management about it and they admitted that maybe he was not their first choise but other things outside their control dictated that he got the promotion???
I have since lost interest and am now looking elsewhere to fulfil my career.

Race has nothing to do with it... you do.

I'm in HR - and I've built and worked within highly diverse workforces for many years.

The issue is cultural. Don't know where you're from, but you have probably noticed that Americans are a fairly gregarious bunch. New, or recent, foreign nationals, depending on where you're from, may come from a very self effacing culture that does not approve of speaking up, speaking out, laughing in the workplace, etc. American companies may reward performance, but the "fit" is also SO important to us.

If you can't communicate effectively you won't be noticed by management.

It has nothing to do with management, it only happens when you deal with an idiot! I had 7 bosses in my previous career and only the last one acted like that and I decided I would be better off leaving him in his little world and quit! By the way, I don't think your question is about racial discrimination... You may be a foreigner and of the same race as an American.

I agree with Charlotte B - I am white and single, and I get to stay late and work weekends and do all the rubbish jobs!

My company is soooooooooooooo 'diverse' that if you're anything but white you get the special treatment.

NB - I am white, but not British - I am still a foreigner here.

Yes, I am a white American, and work with 2 Portuguese women. (there are only the three of us). They often speak in their language (which I don't understand) even though they both speak perfect English.
