Why didn't you talk to your mother if not grandmother?

I am eight weeks and have had similar crampy pains; usually a few hours after eating. Got some advice from the midwife as the following has really helped:
- Light meals often rather than big meals
- Snack on dry biscuits even if I feel a bit queasy
- Sip ginger tea
- get someone to rub your lower back - usually makes it come out as wind but then you feel a lot better!
- I asked the pharmacist for something I could take and they gave me 'Windeeze' which I take every night.

Dosn't make them go away completely but makes life more bearable.

It's a whole new world but you are not alone! See if you can get the phone number of your local midwife team as mine are excellent at chatting on the phone over things you worry about but don't want to bother a doctor over.

I'm 24 weeks pregnant and I had stomach/period cramps almost every day at first! They are really common!! Most women I have spoken to have had them early on.

With me they started a couple of weeks before my period was even due and I got them constantly throughout the first trimester. I still get the odd twinge here and there now but much less since about 20 weeks.

When the baby started kicking I mistook it for cramps!

Cramps are just your uterus expanding, ligaments stretching and everything moving around to make room for the baby. If they are mild there is nothing to worry about. My Midwife told me that the time to worry is if they are severe and accompanied with bleeding (then you need to go to hospital). Otherwise they are quite normal.

I never had stomach pains, but I'm betting you're constipated.

Try taking a stool softener like Colace and see if that helps. Do NOT take Ex-lax. Better yet, call your doctor and see what he/she recommends.

Most women get constipated early in pregnancy, so it's really not uncommon.

Do you mean heartburn, indigestion or sharp pains?

That could be normal, if you have them for a few days. But if you have them for many days, could be an abortion.
