The Ancient Laws of China established the death penalty. In the 18th Century BC, the Code of King Hammurabi of Babylon allowed the death penalty for 25 crimes, but murder was not included. The first recorded death sentence was in 16th Century BC Egypt. A member of nobility, was accused of magic, and ordered to take his own life. Non nobility were usually killed with an ax. Legal executions came to America in 1776 when British soldiers hung Nathan Hale for spying during the Revolutionary War.
In today's world CHINA have the best punishment system. Brutal, but for murders? Perfect. Like Mr. President stated. NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND. lets work with NO MURDERS LEFT BEHIND IN JAILS PAID BY US. KILL THEM ALL.
Please read the chart of punishment from people's opinion.

The person says it was an accident, so they are going to have a huge trial to prove it or otherwise. I think that the person should face life in prison with no chance of ever getting out. This person is a child killer and as for what I hear...inmates aren't nice to people who do harm to children.

I'm not in favor of the death penalty. People who commit horrendous crimes should be given a life sentence of working in a job which serves the community. These animals should suffer for what they have done. For many criminals though, I believe they CAN be reformed, and become good citizens. But for animals like J.M.Karr, a life time of labor is fitting.
The death penalty is barbaric and too easy on the criminals, and far too many innocent people are incorrectly prosecuted, and sentenced to death.

For those who have not heard: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/nation/4123253.html
He admitted to it and said it was an accident.
I think the punishment should be the same as it is for others found guilty of the same charge.
*They are charging him with 1st degree murder*
My thought too is if if were an accident why not come forward when her parents were accused? Of course it seems the kidnapping and sexual assault part were not accidents, just that she was killed was the accident. There should be enough evidence to keep him locked up regardless.

He is going to figure that out in jail. Inmates do not like child killers and chances are he will be spending alot of time in protective custody. I think his conscience will huant him for the rest of his life and he should get life in prison with no chance of parole.

He will likely get life in prison, since he was caught outside the country, they could say depending on when he left the US that he was trying to avoid prosecution, but he probably thought after all this time he was going to get away with it. I would say life in prison is most likely.

The death penalty. Why should tax payers be forced to keep scum alive rotting away in jail? Much better they rot in hell instead. Leviticus says an eye for an eye.

Life in prison without the possibility for parole, particularly in a maximum security prison. I am against the death penalty because that is also murder.
