We say "cat" scan but the abbreviation is actually "CT"
It stands for "Computerised Tomography" The patient is laid on a narrow, padded table and moved into a large rotating ring that surrounds the body. The machine takes radiographic images of the body and produces a three dimensional x-ray. This procedure is used to diagnose many illnesses from brain hemorrhage to intestinal illness.
