It used to be very easy to switch engines in vehicles. Nowadays, because of computer control systems and higher emissions standards and body-type/frame-specific engine design, it's next to impossible and very expensive to do (if it can be done at all). If you're thinking of putting a 32-valve V-8 Northstar engine in an older car, you're looking at probably $4,000.00 at least for the engine and then you'd have to find a place that would install it for you, which would probably cost at least the same amount as the engine. Is your '80s series car even worth that much?

Anything is possible with cars. The question is how much are you willing to pay? If you have a Pontiac Fiero it's pretty cheap. If you don't, you are looking at new motor mounts, throttle linkage, fuel system(northstars are port injected, you probably have tbi or a carb), and possible a whole new computer to operate the motor. Northstar engines can cost about 2 grand if your lucky, but I would not even waste my time on this due to the amount of things you'll have to change. There are plenty of other ways to get horsepower out of your car. Just get a regular crate motor that fits right up, Chevy 350, ford 351 or 302, and supe it up. Alot cheaper trust me. Email me if you need anymore help on finding parts. Good luck, and my the car gods be with you
