Which software is best for a page layout (text)??

depends what kind of layout. for heavy typesetting (ie books) go with indesign or pagemaker (i used pagemaker and liked it a lot)

please don't use photoshop for text typesetting, if you do, you'll go to typesetter hell

for catalogues etc use indesign

Page Maker (from Adobe) is the gold standard.

You can also use programs like Publisher, Word and OpenOffice.org (this last is free, and open source, and available from http://www.openoffice.org/ )
