If you have 6 years experience as a plumber then you may be eligible to apply for an Independent Skilled Migration Visa. This is a permanent residence visa that will allow you to live indefinitely in Australia. You do not need employer sponsorship to apply for this visa.

In terms of finding employment in Australia, plumbers are in severe shortage Australia-wide, you should be able to find work shortly after arriving. Check out these sites:

www.bluecollar.com.au

Trade businesses are usually hesitant to sponsor because of all the paperwork and monitoring involved. You'd be better off going the independent route - no sponsorship required, you won't be tied to a business for the duration of the visa and you will be a permanent resident from the start.

Are there "plumbers unions" in Ireland? If there are, see if you can find out what's available through a "sister" union in Aussie Land! Check on-line to see what the qualifications are needed to be able to work legally as a plumber and try to get "certified" before you go; Check on-line "want ad's" for Aussie papers and have a resume ready to send via e-mail/fax; start getting letters of recommendation together that are verifiable; Good Luck!

i would come here first, Sydney is the largest city but WA is in a serve labour shortage, I would come here first try for sponsorship at worse you will have to leave the country and come back , which is fairly cheap to Bali or kiwi.
if your not too old there is working holiday vise
other than that www.yellowpages.com.au
and hit all the plumbers, WA would be the easiest
also try www.jobsearch.gov.au

You won't have a problem mate. Just come over here and you can choose who you want to work for. We have a huge shortage of plumbers here in Melbourne.

Don't get sponsorship before you come over, wait until you get here and pick and choose.

Good luck with it.

trades are in huge demand in oz, we are actually going through a trade crisis, bad government moves a few years back led to very people doing apprenticeships and now we are suffering because of it, so you'll find it easier to get here with that skill.......
you shouldnt have problems locating a sponsor with your skills, because you are in demand.......however contact the Oz embassy in Ireland and discuss it with them, they will give you full details and should also be able to let you know of the credible sites you cant visit to obtain work before arriving.....good luck hun, you'll be having a barbie and sinking a tiny in no time......
