I have recently had a virus/trojan which I hope new Macafee and spybot and stinger virus scans have got rid of. Does this constant popping up of these windows mean it's still there? If so, is the best course to reformat? Many thanks.

Sounds like a site dialler has been downloaded, have you tried running and Ad-Aware scan?

the Trojan per say it's not there but the raiment's of the Trojan is still hiding and lurking using McAfee is fine but never quarantine a Trojan...delete it if all possible....think this way and u will never have this type of problem again ....the Greeks who thought it was a present took in in the palace walls ....if there were only one man inside the horse ur Mcafee would just delete it but there were may men in side just as a Trojan virus inside ur computer..the particular virus u have in ur computer is a dialer and has an attachment key logger...most all dialer's have this key logger and some are really hard to get rid of ...almost impossible..restoring to a future restore date will not work because this is where the dialer is hiding...it located in ur cart root....car root is name of section the dialer is stored in and it usually is located in a primary file...if u delete this primary file winxp pro will not function any more and u will have to re-program ur machine and the bad news is that is exactly what u will probably have to do to get rid of it..u r not the only one who has to do this ....if Mcafee does not pick it up as soon as u go to a questionable web site then i suggest u get and anti-virus that will pick it up ...if for some reason u still can't get rid of it contact me and we see what can be done ....but am sure u will have to re-format ur computer.....

Quite simple,
1. Start -> run type msconfig
2. Check the start up tab in that
3. Ensure that none of the startup program requires network connectivity
4. In internet explorer tools option check for internet options
5. See that u delete all cookies , offline contents and history
6. See that all file in temp folder and temp internet folder are deleted.
7. These steps will ensure u getting off from this problem
8 If even still stuck call back

All the best

A reformat is a bit of overkill. Download Adaware and do a full disk search. McAfee takes care of viruses, not malware or adware.

Before you go to a reformat, trying cleaning the spyware first.
Run both Ad-aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/) and Skybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/) to remove any spyware. Run both as one may caught something the other missing. Then go to microsoft.com and download Defender to protect against future infections.

www.lavasoftusa.com download ad-aware free version, it'll sort it if you've got a virus still
