You are legally responsible to pay until she leaves full time education. If she finishes school at age 16, then whenever the Child Benefit stops, you are not required unless there is other circumstances such as disability. If she stays on to Uni/college then you will have to support her until the end of her course, and possibly fork out for the fees.

If you are earning 23K, and want to be fair to her and her mum, so that they are not struggling financially, then I would suggest around about 100 a week would be a good place to start negotiations. This helps with food and fuel, clothes and rent/mortgage. Myself, I would pay more if I could afford it. Your daughter is at a very expensive age, and if you were all together as a family it would probably cost you a lot more!

If you want to do the decent thing, you need to make sure that your daughter does not suffer - well no more than she would if you were still at home and living as a family and living within your means.

Too many absent fathers (for whatever reason) think they can get away with paying next to nothing and leaving it to the mother to struggle.

As your daughter is 14, I am sure you wife can find some sort of work - even if it is part-time. This should help to defray some costs.

Your daughter is the important one here. Don't let any bitterness between you and your ex ruin her life and her love for you.

That all depends on what state you live in. Most states its around 18 - 20% of your pay. Most states you pay until the child is 18 or out of school. Check with you local child support agency for the laws in your state. I recommend if you do pay child support do it through the state that way its a third party keeping track of what you have paid. I have heard from people that they paid their ex but the ex said they did not and they got stuck paying twice.

Well the court takes a percentage of what you make, it's not like they want to leave you with nothing to live on, but you have to admit that alot of times child support nowhere near covers what it cost to truely raise a child. And you pay up until they are 18 or out of school (graduated).

Right now they figure to raise a child from birth to college is $160,140. You figure an average child support payment at $40 a week for one child from 5yrs of age til 18 = $27,040

Thats alot of extra money coming out of someones pocket. (like $133,100.)

So when whoever has custody of the child wants a little extra help with toys, clothes or other things...I don't think I would complain sheling out a little extra. I guess what I am trying to say...is when you truely sit down and add it all up, the weekends that you spend, doing things with them...ect....will never add up to the amount it cost to raise them for their everyday needs.

Around 20% but why ask she's your child after all. Your wife will pay 100% of her income towards her girl. GROW UP at least be a man if you can't be a supportive Dad. What price do you put on your child?

That is up to the court to decide. They will make you pay at least until she is 18, or a bit longer if she is still in high school at that age. They may also make you pay if she chooses to go to college.

I would calculate the cost of raising your daughter in the way you intended when you conceived her and pay that. You pay until she is able to make it on her own, whenever that is, she's your daughter not a car. If she moves out of her mothers house at some point (after college for instance), you should still be responsible for your share of a wedding if she marries. 14yrs ago you promised her that you would be her father, what exactly changed that in the failure of your marriage? You aren't divorcing her. Get another job or a different one. Work two jobs. Be a man and be responsible.

Go through the CSA, they allocate 15% of your net earnings. Don't feel guilty about paying more, I did that and she wanted more & more. So I went through the CSA. You only pay that until they reach 16 or continue in further education...

You have to give whatever the court deems suitable for the child. Each state is different. You will start paying immediately and then pay until she is 18.
