Obviously I will add oil...duh!
We maintain the car well, including oil...every 3,000 miles! I've never had to add oil in the years we've had it. It's odd it's connected to the engine light. Odder still that it started so fierociously. The lease is up in a few months.

Uh, well, for starters, if the low oil light came on it means you need to add oil to the engine. That could explain why it started so roughly -- engines need oil to lubricate all the moving parts, so if your oil level is low, the parts have a hard time moving. If the low oil engine comes on in a GM or Ford vehicle, it means the engine is 2 quarts low or lower. Try adding 1 quart of oil, then take the oil dipstick out, wipe it off with a paper towel, stick it back in, and pull it out again. That'll give you a pretty accurate read of the oil level. If it's still low, add more oil. Then try starting the car again.

If you have a Ford, the engine light is basically the oil light and your probably very low on oil. Check the dipstick and add a quart or two and drive around for about 15 minutes. Let it cool down and then check the dipstick again. Good Luck!
P.S. I had this same problem 27 yrs ago...and married the mechanic that fixed it!!! :-)

i'm assuming that you verify the oil formerly you merely dump a quart in, proper? If the oil factor is okay, verify the oil stress- i'm somewhat constructive that GP's have a guage- if that's ok then you definately're likely merely staring at a nasty sensor and it is giving the computer bogus information, for this reason the "verify Engine" person-friendly. every person who owns a motor vehicle with a pc might want to make investments in a code reader and a provider guide. they could help you diagnose an rather good type of complications your self, saving large greenbacks on taking the vehicle to a save. you may %. one up at an vehicle elements save for $20 to $50. The guide will set you back $20 to $25. you gained't be apologetic about figuring out to purchase both. by technique of how, replacing your oil each 3,000 miles isn't something more effective than your mechanic desirous to work out you more effective commonly. verify your vendors guide- it is going to allow you to recognize cautioned periods for a way and the position you force. as long as you employ high quality oil, replacing each 3000 miles is often unnecessary.

Well. I would THINK the LOW LEVEL ENGINE OIL light would be an indication of what you must do to get rid of both lights. THINK.

I'm hoping you immediately turned it off, checked the oil and added enough to bring it up in the 'safe' range. If not, you probably have damage now.
