My favorite band is Chicago, Their use of a horn section to add to the standard lineup of guitars, drums and vocals really was unique and I loved the sound immediately.

Avenged Sevenfold. Not so much their newer cd (City Of Evil... with "Bat Country" on it), but more so the first 2 cd's. Their bass is loud enough to hear, and strong. The two guitarists are amazing and go perfectly with each other. The drumming is absolutely flawless. And the (old) vocals were something you could mosh to. M. Shadows (vocalist) used to scream a lot, but later had to get surgery and now sounds stupid. As for their shows, I've seen more entertaining bands... but their music sounds even better on stage. Which is RARE for bands these days.

The Grateful Dead is my favorite band. They were always improvising when playing. In 30 years of playing, they never played a song the exact same way as they did the time before. I think that is impressive.
Bob Dylan is my favorite solo artist for much of the same reason. I also admire his greatness in the skill of songwriting.

Led Zeppelin, John Bonhams drumming made me want to take up the drums...which I did and it is great...If you ask me, and it may sound trite, but if you want to know something about songwriting and playing as a band, study Led Zeppelin

Ok, DMB, because of the many different instruments they use, especially fond of the fiddle playing!!!! It amazes me how welll everything comes together with theire sound.
Christina Aquilera has the most incredible voice I have ever heard. She has the ability to reach right into my soul with that range of hers.

Frank Zappa, it's more like the total package here and the absolute versatility of the music he made. I can't think of any style he didn't do apart from lounge/house and just crappy music.
