I think America is one of the biggest polluters to the environment due to the big cars etc. And George Bush doesn't even care. I also believe that we will be the cause of our own deaths if something isn't done about the increase in global warming. The problem with society is that no one really cares about such 'insignificant' things in such a corrupt world, people have adapted to the saying 'its everyone for themselves.' Conquering global warming and the green house effect is something everyone has to participate in. People need to start recycling, reusing things, not spraying alot of chemicals in the air, once in a while try to walk to work/school instead of using the car. You would have thought such events like the tsunami would have woken people up to the sudden changes in the Earths' movements, but i think they all went back to sleep. The majority of people especially politicians do not take the world seriously they do not understand non-renewable sources such as coal and oal will soon run out if we don't put aside the greed and lust for such minerals. We will all one day look back on the past and regret not doing anything to begin with. Which is just a shame when we have the technology to make the world a better place.

Yes, is the largest problem we are facing at the moment.
The Kyoto agreement sets rules for all countries to reduce
pollutants. Every country has signed with the exception of
the United States who produce 25% of all pollutants. There
was a recent question made by an asker "is Arnie" a hero
or villain. Arnie is Arnold Schewartzenegger (if that is the correct
spellng), who is the Governor of the state of California. Bush
will not sign the Kyoto agreement, so Arnie went ahead on
his own and is ruling gas pollution in his State(which is the
most populous in the USA and has the highest rating of
pollution. I live in Brazil where illegal downfall of the Amazon
region continues. We have rivers drying up, high temps ( we
had no winter) and an average of 25% loss in crop yields.
You asked what can be do? The only immediate answer is
"kick Bush in his bum and tell him to sign the Kyoto agreement"
and follow Arnie‘s example. Blair knows all about the problem
and has even met with Arnie to help out. However, nobody is
greater than Bush, who will go down in History for many ill deeds,
mostly for not respecting nature and the whole world. He should
go to hell, and fast. That would help.

It is scary what we are doing to our environment. Thank goodness there is something we can all do. First of all using energy efficient appliances helps reduce energy use as does the new energy efficient lightbulbs. Second, we could all plant trees that would help remove carbon from the air (7 trees per person per year would neutralize the damage done). Third, more fuel efficient vehicles would help.... and it doesnt have to be a hybrid we simply need to double the gas mileage we currenty get and millions of gallons of oil would be spared every year. Imagine trading your 12 mpg suv in for a camry which gets over 30 mpg!! That would be a great benefit to the environment. And lastly we need to invest in alternative energy sources like wind power and solar power. That alone would reduce carbon output by one-third!!!!

We're probably partially responsible for the acceleration of climate change, but hey ho it's changed quite a lot in the last 4.5 billion years.
We've had hippos and tundra in London in the last 100,000 years and that's a blink of an eye in geological time.
At the end of the last ice age (10,000ish years ago) when things warmed up, the N. American ica sheets melted, the Mississippi carried all the cold water down to the Gulf, the gulf stream switched off and we had another mini glacial period all over again. Nature has a way of sorting things out.
If it gets too hot, maybe the ants will take over: Things evolve and die out all of the time, and if we really mess things up then we'll die out too, but Earth will carry on with or without us.

All Of Mankind's Natural Re courses are Long Forgotten
We cannot Go out and hunt for food with just a knife and bow and arrows
Or start a fire With just some logs
We are all damned When this happens But this will take a very long time too happen.

I live in the USA and it is located about 200 miles from the coast. Like you I feel like if nothing is done, I may be living on the coast when the ice caps melt and the water rises for miles world wide. There is a movie out called The Inconvient Truth about global warming and what we can do about it.

The grenhouse effect is one mechanism of the planetary system (Gaia) that helps keep the our environmental system suitable for life.
the problem/disaster is "climate change" caused by interfering with the feedback processes which originally locked up excess CO2 as coal and oil, but we are reversing that by rapidly releasing it back into the atmosphere; and at the same time destroying all the "sinks" such as forest, healthy oceans ecosystems etc.

I don't know about the temperature increasing all over the world, just been to Majorca and it was storm after storm rain after rain, which should not happen there in August.
Do you think dinosaur farts caused them to go into the ice age as they are saying the cattle farting is an issue now!

i live in the united states in va. ..........for the second answer
well most scientist agree that we are past the point of stopping it but we can slow i down dramatically......
1. tree's in the amazon we need to stop cutting the tree's down cause as everyone know the amazon are the lung of earth and it filter 80% of the carbon dioxide of the earth.
2.stop using fossil fuuels and just cut back on electricity, water, everything that need fossil fuel to initially start on makeing things work.
3.start using more recycleble stuff like metal's to paper everything and we should be able to slow it down dramatically......
