One of those topics that people should never touch?
Think about this:
World War 1, World War 2, Korean War, The Holocaust, ETC ETC
Those events - WAY more people died and it effected the world way more.
Many movies were made about these as well. You cant not make a movie just because it effected YOU. Maybe it is "too soon." but you cant just ignore it. Making it into a movie also helps people understand what happened.
Shindler's List. Did it effect you? Probably not. Why? Because it didnt happen to you. But it happened to many others.
Everyone just needs to DEAL with what happens. There is no way around it.

I think that alot of people have forgotten abou it. You get out there and ask people when it happened other than 9-11 they dont know what year. I saw it on tv the other day where some news correspondets went out and asked people about it and they did not know.So I think this is a good time to tell the story of what happened. Even if it is about a couple of people. This story is about survival and how some people overcame adversity in a situation where most of us would not even go near something like this. This movie is also about courage and helping others. It has alot of positive messages. I keep a picture of the towers in my computer to remind me about that day. "I will never forget" you can be sure of that.and this is a message for everyone else Don't You All Ever Forget.

I think it should be made..if it is done tastefully...I think that people need to know what really happened and that there were extraordinary people there that day and after that saved thousands of lives...If you look at it from the point of "it will upset people" a lot of things upset people...there are veterans of the wars: WWII, Korean conflict, Vietnam and dessert Storm, that would be upset to see a movie about those also. But they still make them... how soon is too soon...for some it will always be too soon. I will see the movie WTC because I want to know about these great heroes and I am proud of the effort that they gave..and some gave all they had..this movie was made to inspire not to hurt....

As a filmmaker, I completely disagree with most of these posts. They didn't wait to tell past tradgedys out of respect...trust me...The first Titanic movie was made in the silent era. The first Pearl Harbor film was made in the 40's! We all saw 9/11 on the news 24/7. Was that too soon? Film is a medium that allows artists to communicate what they feel, and even let the audience heal..It rarely upsets people beyond controversy. It's not all about money trust me....They aren't milking it with WTC...a story teller wants to tell a story, and we shouldn't be looking down on that.

I totally agree with you! That movie just came out this week near me and I think it is awful that they would make a movie about something so tragic and so close to home. I agree with some other people who have answered that it is too early, in fact I'm not even sure if anytime, like another 10 yrs or maybe even longer would have been the right time

No, it isn't too early. It is best done when every one that survived are still alive to tell their story. The ones that were the victoms, the survivors....they don't need to see the movie. It is those of use that didn't experience it first hand that need the reminder. I want my children to see all the movies when they are old enough. It is part of history and it needs to be told. When we told the victoms "We will never forget.": we meant it!! We need this. We need to remember the horror of that day and if movies help us to see some of the victoms up close and the personal accounts of what they went through then so be it. As long as every account in the movies are accurate and factual.....What better time to make sure that happens then when the victoms are able to tell their story and make sure it is demonstrated accurately. Remember, "We will never forget!"

i dont think that it should never be made. i just think that it was made way to soon. There are still families grieving and there are the children who are grown up now going to see the movie. you cry thru the whole movie because the people remember what happened. It's like Pearl harbor, if it was to come out back in the day then we would say the same thing, but the fact that it came out years later gave people more of a chance to recover

The problem is that too many people have already forgotten. They cry for political correctness so that we don't hurt anyone's feelings - even if it means that we allow more attacks against innocent citizens. I'd much rather have someone hurt my feelings than blow me up.
America needs some perspective, and this movie just might remind a few people that there are very dangerous people who want to hurt us. This was not a one-time tragedy. It will happen again if we do not stand up to these terrorists.

Sorry, but there are no "topics that people should never touch". Some of the greatest movies ever made have been about the Holocaust. No free society would dream of putting limits on what artists can and can not explore....

Let me make sure I'm understanding this correctly. The person who's asking the question -- and the people who are agreeing with him/her -- are the people who REALLY care about the tragic events of 9/11. But, the artists out in the world -- Oliver Stone among them -- he just wants to make a buck, huh?
"People are still trying to deal with it..." For your information, the way that artists (poets, filmmakers, actors, writers, painters, musicians, etc.) DEAL with things is to express their feelings through their art. You think it's inappropriate? I strongly urge you not to buy a ticket. But, for goodness' sake, stop pretending that YOU'RE the only sensitive souls out there who are truly affected by what happened.
And, just for future reference...what are some of the OTHER "topics that people should never touch..."?
