For example, Chevron Texaco has given the republican party more than $5.2 million since 1990. Under Bush' stimulus plan, they stood to receive around $572 million in the form of a retroactive tax cut. Enron has given $5.5 million during the same period, and they stood to receive $254 million. General electric stood to receive over $600 million in return for there contributions of less than $2 million. The list could go on extensively. It seems obvious that the money spent to get a candidate elected is much less than the eventual pay backs. They have all received large contributions from pharmaceutical companies and healthcare agencies ($35,000; $32,000; $116,000; $75,000 in 2000 respectively)(2). The House this week will consider $8 billion in tax breaks targeted to the energy industry at a time when some of those companies are enjoying soaring profits from high consumer prices. The U.S. government over the next five years will give a windfall of $7 billion to oil companies -- yes, the same oil companies that reported record profits last year. But wait, it gets worse: If one oil company that is suing the government succeeds, that windfall could hit nearly $35 billion. BUSH GIVES AND GIVES TO OIL COMPAINES AND TAKES FROM US !!

Not only do they invest in the Republican party. Our current President is a product of BP, Exxon-Mobil, and Chevron Texaco.

Considering that the Democrats have demonized them for years, have prevented them from building new refineries, straddled them with overregulation, and have prevented them from new exploration in America, then why would they give money to the Dems?

Of course they support the Republican party financially. But they are not stupid and hedge their bet by supporting the Democrats as well.
So they are in a win/win situation. That's politics, baby!

They sure do. Sometimes more than their proft. I wish all the evil in the world could be blamed on oil. That'd make life so much easier.
