They aren't any more dangerous than any other low power laser. There is the chance of blindness from staring at the laser, but its very low, as the person above described. The is also a small amount of lead involved as well, but not enough to be truely dangerous, they have warnings on it because CA requires that all items that have even the smallest microgram of lead to be listed as containing lead.

Only to ball mice. They keep replacing them.
It might not be too good to stare at the red light without blinking.
But they are much better than a ball mouse that you had to keep cleaning.
An optical mouse is safe.

The answer is as long as you don't stare into the optical beam (the red light on the bottom) for gratuitus amounts of time then no. If you are stupid enough to sit there and stare directly into the light....then yes....and you deserve everything you get.

yes they are, and then some. first of all - you can go blind if you stare at the beam for ie, 2 weeks without flinching. also, you can choke yourself if you tie the cable around your neck. also by swallowing the mouse.
