I think it is unhealthy to instill so much vanity and shallowness into young children. Why not teach them to excell at a sport, or hobby, instead of implying that their greatest asset is their looks?

I think it's freaky the way they take these little girls and make them look like women...it's not natural and I think it's dangerous. There are too many wierdos out there to flaunt your little girls around looking like adults in a childs body. Let children be children. You grow up fast enough as it is.

I agree that child beauty pageants are teaching children that what you look like is more important that who you are. I think that is completely the wrong message that children should be taught.
That being said, it's a free country and if ppl want to involve themselves and their kids in beauty pageants and enjoy it, that is their choice. There is probably a lot of mother/daughter bonding that goes on, and possibly for some girls it will build social skills and self esteem.
Just don't look to me to ever show up at one (that's more boring than a dance recital!)

i don't think it's totally wrong, it really depends on how much emphasis the parents put on it. I've seen some kids who enter pageants and they also are in girl scouts, soccer and such. I've also seen kids who miss school and miss out on real life by entering pageants. I do think that the way the kids dress in these pageants should be like kids not like street walkers

Yes, parents who dress their children up at these events should be charged with child abuse. If you are an adult and you want to play dress up fine but to to treat your child like a prized pet is an injustice that turns my stomach every time I see it on the news.
