I had the same problem kept getting told to turn on java script, so I went to java.com and found a program for running java, it's free to download.
It was a while ago so haven't got the exact details to help you but do the same just have a look around the java site you can even ask about problems.

Open IE and go to “tools” -> “Internet options”. From there, select “security tab”. Click “internet” (the globe) and click “custom level” button. Once you get the settings, check for the category scripting and click the “enable” combo boxes, if they are already disabled.

on internet explorer, tools, internet options, click the security tab, custom level, find javascript make sure it's checked.

After downloading it (the applet) it turns on automatically.
