I am 16 and a size 18. I feel terribly fat and am eating healthy and excercising regularly to get in shape, but I can't help wondering if being overweight is that bad.
Everyone in my year is skinny and blonde, and i stand out like crazy.
But is it such a bad thing?

Definetly not! Curves can be fun, and standing out is a good thing, but mae sure you aren't heavy enough to be putting your health at risk.

Are you happy with yourself and in yourself, I wouldn't say at size 18 you are overweight, your only 16 and still growing in body and shape, your eating healthily and doing regular exercise too so you are keeping yourself fit that way, you are a real woman not some stick insect, you know there are worse things in life than standing out from the crowd, so all the girls at school are blond and skinny, how boring, how many have natural blond hair, bet its less than 10% of them, how many of them are ruining their bodies and life's by having some sort of eating disorder, probably quiet a few of them, it was the same when I was in school too, you just be the person you are and don't conform because its what you think you have to do, you carry on been as beautiful as you are and at least the guys will notice you, cause your the real woman that stands out in the crowd, good luck and be happy.

At your age, you shouldn't worry too much about your weight. My senior year I went to the prom with a girl who had been my friend since first grade, and she was a Size 18 too. We just had our 20th reunion and now she's "average." According to her, she didn't change anything -- she just started losing weight in college and has kept it off ever since. To answer your question, though: NO, it's not a "bad" thing to be overweight, and it doesn't make you a "bad" person. Hollywood does a grave disservice to women who don't have Barbie-doll figures. The greatest concern about being overweight is that it can cause some pretty serious health problems later in life (Type II diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc.) For now, I wouldn't sweat it, but you should keep an eye on it as you get older. If you see your blood pressure creeping up or your cholesterol levels rising, that would be a good indicator that you may need to lose weight.

Nope. In school you are subject to only a select few people that are acutally in the world. Once you are out of school you will see there are many people out there with many different sizes.

Everyone is beautiful in there own way... people that are skinny have a terrible personality, some who is a little overweight has a great personality, etc...

Keep eating healthy and exercises cause the more you take care of yourself the better you'll feel thoughout life.... physically and mentally.

No, I think that standing out is a great thing, but please carry on eating healthily and exercising, as you dont want to stand out for the wrong reasons, by being unhealthy. If you find that you are still putting on weight, then it may be worth seeing a doctor to rule out any medical reason behind it.
If being larger is making you feel unhappy, do something about it, but never feel that you should lose weight just to fit in - true friends will always love you for who you are, not what size you are. Find a weight that you are happy with, and stand proud amongst the *skinny blondes*, happy in the knowledge that you are ebing true to yourself - that is an endearing quaity in a person !!

Yes. Its a very bad thing. Its not only unhealthy for the body, but its unhealthy for the mind, and also unattractive.

Most problems with the body are caused by what we put into it.

In today's society, we need significant effort and will-power to insist on a healthy diet.
There are preservatives in most supermarket foods which are detrimental to health. Many fresh fruit and veg have been sprayed with poisonous pesticides, and considering eating dead animals is definitely bad for the health, especially when you consider what the animal has consumed and has been injected with.

A vegetarian diet is a good way to start eating healthily, and will help with losing weight.

By avoiding refined sugar, aspartame, MSG, and flavourings and colourings, then we are avoiding putting lots of poisons into our body, so that's a good start.

Our diet should consist mainly of fresh fruit, and should also include green leaved vegetables, nuts and seeds. We don't actually need anything else, but of course we like the taste of bread and cereals, and potatoes, and rice, which we can use as fillers.

By eating the above diet, and getting sufficient exercise, most of our health and weight problems will go away, and our energy will increase to help us to enjoy life much better. In short we become a healthier, happier and better person.

Happy eating.

It is how you feel that matters, but being a size 18 at aged 16 cannot be too healthy. I think you should continue to exercise and eat healthy because of your heart and worry less about the weight.

Type 2 diabetes, cardio vascular problems and low self-esteem are just a few of the problems associated with obesity.
I hate to be mean as I know what you're going through, but you are obese, possibly morbidly, this is dangerous and it needs to be solved.
You are doing the right thing exercising and eating well, keep your calorie intake below 2000 per day and you'll lose weight at a healthy rate

no it's not a bad thing to be a little overweight, most girls you see nowdays look stick thin- bleached- hair eating nothing but a yoghurt, dont in my mind look nice,at the same time dont go up any more sizes because you will be to big, and unhealthy , if you are happy with your weight now maintain that, drink a glass of water befor dinner and ask your mum to dish it up on a smaller plate, you will get use to a slightly smaller meal, when you go to school hold your head high and dont give into fads,,good luck

Jen, what you are doing is right. The key to being fit and healthy is to start eating healthily and to exercise regularly.

I guess being overweight is nothing to be ashamed of, except that with being overweight comes the many health risks, like diabetes, hypertension, heart failures etc.

Never mind the other girls in your year. What's important is that you are doing things for YOUR OWN GOOD, and not to follow and compete with those other people.

Good luck, babe ((:
