Who sings this song what is it called?

I don't know the exact lyrics or I'd look it up...the lyrics are something like, Please let me talk to her.....operator says something like "pay for 3 more minutes" ? I believe this was from the 70's or maybe 80's and was a soft rock type breakup song. It's not Jim Croce "Operator".
