I would add the following. I tried a cheap card with 3 USB and 1 firewire connectors. It took Win98 forever and a day to boot up. I took that card back and got a 2 firewire connector and things got back to normal. A video capture card will have firewire connects but they only work for a camera. The cheap firewire card mention previously hooked up both a camera (with video software that came free with the card, called dvPerfect from www.avid.com, the most current version is $50) and the card also allows the connection to a external hard drive storage device.

WinXP will recognize the firewire card and the camera but it takes a long time to configure the connection.

Try the USB IEEE1394 Internal Header to Female socket, USB Firewire PCI Adapter can do the trick for you or the GoldX 3 Port FireWire Hub, IEEE 1394-1995 Compliant.

The PCI card is cheaper though so it depends on how much you can spend.

Firewire is different from USB. To use Firewire you have to have a Firewire card in your PC.
