in the 1960s Britain was in dire need of 'working class' people.
many Indian / Pakistani origin people who lived in western African countries were facing problems due to the outbreaks and riots in those countries. however, because those countries were under British rule that time, they had British passports.
due to the outbreaks thousands of indians and pakistanis had to leave Africa and return to India - or use their British passport and come to London
UK needed the work force and conditions were not too good in post-independence india, so they moved to the UK.
In the late 60s and 70s majority of non skilled workers, bus drivers, conductors, shop workers, cleaners were from south east asia

Because people travel or move to improve their lives.
This can be someone from london moving north for a healthier lifestyle or from the old colonies in the fifties and sixties to london to get a job.
An no, they did not need passports in the fifties and sixties. There was a big labour shortage in the UK factories and for menial jobs. The British government was handing out vouchers in former colonies, probably hoping that the potential "slave labour" woul pay for its own plane tickets untill the presence of so many non-white people caused some friction with the natives.
There were some attempts to encourage them to go back followed by all sorts of restrictions to stop them coming. Nowadays, there are more attempts to encourage them to leave as there are plenty of people from eastern europe willing to do the jobs the local natives don't want to do.
Because of the EU expansion, over a million eastern EU national have come to the UK in the past year or two (they don't need any visas).
Don't worry, the European natives in london and elsewhere are not an endangered species. They still have the whole of the North/South America and Australia and are not coming back any time soon.

Because Pakistan and India were the same country 60 years ago. In the other side India had been colonized by the UK, and all of the constructions of London and other parts of the UK is constructed by Indian people. So the UK historically belongs to India and pakistan in other words, Indians and pakis are the real owners of the UK.

As people have metioned, britain needed alot of cheap labour for the various reasons in the 60s and 70s so they allowed the immigration of indians and pakistanis, they settled and had children, most of kids have done well in professions, while others perhaps have done less so. jealously of hardwork is quite prevalent in london.

Because India was once a British territory as was Jamaica. Not sure what the boarder status was or if Pakistan was even a country at the time of British rule. This is probably why.

India (and Pakistan while it was still India), were under British rule for a long time. It's part of the culture.
Why wouldn't they be in London? Why are there so many English in London? Why can't they just leave?

Because London is huge and India and Pakistan are former colonies.
Why do you think there are?
Is that a problem for you?

There's quite a few French as well - well, Normans anyway, what with 1066 and all that. What is the period of time that turns an immigrant into an accepted resident as far as bigots are concerned anyway?
