every time is rush hour. but in the cubao terminal, it takes a long time for jeepneys to fill up at night, maybe about 20-30 minutes and if takes longer than that, irate passengers get off so the jeepney has to stay a bit longer. during the day, there is also a small table for the "barkers," the people who shout out various destinations of the jeepneys; you also pay your fare at the table and the barkers will be the ones to give the collected fares from the passengers. one bad thing about that is that they tend to squeeze people in even if it's obvious that other people can't sit anywhere anymore. for example, they say each side is good for 9 people, but that cannot be as people's sizes are different--some of them are thin, average or fat. not unless there are 18 thin people boarding the jeepney, then there won't be any problem with that.

nobody cares about anybody inside the jeepney, but when it comes to giving the fare to the driver and you're sitting far away, the other passengers near you would take your fare to pass it on until it reaches the driver. and if the driver cannot hear you say "para" (stop the jeepney--words to that effect), the passengers near the driver would say it a bit louder or knock on the ceiling so that the driver would stop.

hope this helps. ^^

A jeepney ride at rush hour. The Jeepney is flagged down and it stops in the middle of the street with traffic moving on both sides constantly peeping their horns, you jump in the back just in time before it pulls off. your fare is passed person to person and the driver collects the money on his hand flicked over his shoulder, the change is returned to you in the same way. This is all done while the driver is going along. No windows in the Jeepney so the manila polution, smoke and vehicle fumes infest the insides, most people hold hankerchiefs to their mouths and nose.Constant beep, beep, beep from just about every vehicle horn, police sirens behind, forget it, they aint getting through. Two lane roads become four and anyway you can get through is the general rule.Comming to your stop, you jump sometimes from a moving jeepney right into the line of vehicles behind, then run for your life to reach the sidewalk. It fun though

You can pick up jeepneys at terminals. They're lined up by signboard destination. The terminals appear to be makeshift, but there is order among the chaos, with vendors selling stuff you'd munch on between rides or take home: fried plantains, balut, lechon manok.

You were hoping to get on one of the cleaner ones, the one with the shiny chrome hood ornaments. Instead, it's the noisy one belching diesel fumes out the tail, with the Seven Dwarves bobbleheads on the dash. You can tell by the large basstube under the bench seating that this jeepeny used to really crank out the tunes, but that's "used to": the wires from that tube aren't connected to anything.

On the ceiling inside the passenger compartment is a portrait if Jesus and the Virgin Mary, plus a listing of the family members of the driver. The bench seating is covered in plastic, the better for your bare thighs to stick to them while sitting. Forget trying to cross your legs: there's very little room across the aisle from you.

Appears like it's going to be a busy ride. Not only are people crammed inside, there are people hanging off the back. You wonder how the driver can manage the vehicle through heavy traffic, darting to and from the curb to drop off and pick up passengers. Before each stop you're passing fares forward from departing passengers. You watch cars and bodegas pass by the side of the road, watching for that familiar landmark that tells you you're getting close.

As your stop appraches, you tap on the roof, pass your fare forward to the driver, then get out the back, glad to be able to spread out.

Jeepneys are then inspiration for the moon buggies, able to move its way against impossible terrain. The seats are designed for about 8 people on each bench but the driver fits about 9 people each.
At night during rush hour, jeepneys can get quite dizzying with their colorful interior lighting of yellow, blue and red. people are all crammed up like sardines but still even in the compact space, the noisy engine and the rough street, people are still able to sleep soundly.
As for terminals, there are only select stops that have terminals, these are usually the ones near CBDs or (centrak business districts) or famous schools like the University of the Philippines. During rush hour, lines can reach up to the round of the corner if there is limited jeepneys available. Only in Makati can you find the airconditioned jeep. You're lucky if you happen to catch one of those.
There are different looks for jeepneys. Some are really colorful with booming sound systems, while there are others that are very dilapidated with holes on the floor(don't worry you won't fall) but regardless of how they look, they are really fast. i believe that if you put jeepneys drivers against famous race car drivers around the world they would win. no cop can chase them.
the noise is bearable, just imagine an old angine that is revving up.
atmosphere is generally quite if you are alone(meaning you don't have a companion) there's this genereal rule "never to look anyone in the eye". everyone just tends to look outside the window.
it's okay to sit beside strangers only NO NOs are
1.) those who are sweaty and smelly people
2.) those who are sleeping that tend to lean on your shoulder(duh, i don't know the guy)
3.) women with really long hair and it flies towards your face
4.) pickpockets, slashers(guys who use extra sharp blades to cut through your bag and steal your stuff)
5.) perverts (those who intentionally rub their arms or legs towards your body)

The concept of crowding in the philippines is really non existent. mrt, jeepneys, concerts, anything....filipinos just tend to look at the bright side of the situation. we don't care that the jeep is too crowded, we're just thankful we got on a jeep to avoid being late, etc...

oH mAN..I hated those college years of mine...
anyway,
Rush hour- traffic, people being rude to one another especially when getting a jeepney, FX, or taxi.
terminal- many pipol in line waiting for the jeepney, FX, or taxi
Jeepney- Inside...HOT AS IN..esp. if its crowded, there's this thing in the ceiling of jeepneys you hold onto when it is moving
Outside- it depends, it all looks different and unique!
Noise- it depends on the driver..sounds noisy from the muffler, or from the radio being to loud..or from pipol talking, laughing
Atmosphere---- HOT when crowded but when not cool and windy and spacious.

Hope thats helpful..

It is always rush hour.
There is no terminal. You flag it down.
The jeepney is very colorful Do a yahoo image search.
It sounds like and old truck. It is perhaps a bit underpowered.
The bench seats are hard, the road is bumpy, your knees touch stranger's knees.
Nobody looks at each other, but everybody looks at you.
