I think it is because the american flag has become a cultural icon. It is not just Americans that wear it, I will bet that you can go to most countries in the world and find someone wearing something with the American flag. Also, it is not just Americans, I am pretty sure that I have seen English people wearing England's flag on these items and also the Swedes. Below you will find links to Austrailia flag underwear, A Spanish fan with a Spanish flag bikini and a Canadian bikini. The fad is not just limited to Americans.

Why would that insult our country? We wear it on our shirts too...is that an insult? Maybe you think that its insulting, but we don't. Our freedom is important to us and any way we can show the pride that we have in our country then we'll do it.

I don't have any underwear or bikini with the US flag on it, but at least I know that if I wanted to, I could.

If they are wearing things like that it is because they like them and it really shouldn't be anyones business.....but that is one of the great things about America we are able to wear things like that and not get in trouble..you know the freedom thing!!! Try doing that in other countries (wearing that flag of that country) and see how far you get.

I really don't know. I mean, the code of conduct regarding the flag, is that it's not supposed to be made into clothing... the pattern is meant for designation and respresentation of the USA only.

...But I suppose only Boy/Girl Scouts, ROTC cadets like myself, and those in the military know of that obscure fact. Can't exactly blame them for not knowing.

Why should they feel ashamed doing so? What's wrong with bikinis and underwears? IMO if the (new) flags are thrown away in the garbage can then it surely is insulting.

I really don't know, next time you see someone, like on the beach, go up to them and ask them. Or maybe they aren't Americans and they just hate us.

Guess it's accepted in their culture. In fact, it's their way of showing their love for America. To each his own
