They sing like a bird - not because they are hurt or hungry - that is a whole sort of different noise. This noise is un common and not many owners hear it. No one really knows why they do it, but it is mostly to get another guinea pigs attention - nothing to be worried about - just think of it as a privilege as this is rare. Congrats!!!!

Years ago my family used to breed guinea pigs. So we had 30 or 40 at a time. They love the company of other guinea pigs and they communicate by whistling to each other.
As someone else said, they only seem to do this when they are happy and content but also at feeding times.

My guinea pigs used to make noises when someone came to the door. As our doorbell was broken, we depended on the guinea pigs to let us know when someone was there.
Guinea pigs have quite a range of vocal noises, so I would say bird noises are not that unusual.

When guinea pigs sing it is usually because they are hungry. Sometimes it is because they are frightened, or being tortured.
So generally food or comfort is what they are seeking.
As it was during the night, this is unusual. Was it early evening, or after bedtime. After bedtime suggests it was probably to do with a cat attacking the cage and poking its claws at the guinea pig. However, in my experience cats do not attack guinea pigs. Indeed a cat I had used to sleep in the Guinea pig cage with the guinea pig next to it for warmth and comfort when it was on its own and lonely because the other guinea pig had died.
Sometimes guinea pigs sing when they are being eaten. They are quite a delicacy in some parts of Southen America.

My sister had a guinea pig and every-time you mentioned the word carrot he would run up to you and start squealing,it was like he was so happy he was going to get a carrot. He also loved company and would often squeal when you spoke softly to him.

Guinea pigs whistle as a form of communication and they do it as a warning or a greeting. They also have other sounds like purring and snuffleing. which you can grow to interpret in different ways.

If he's alone, it means he's lonely. Guinea pigs live in big groups and spend all day grunting and squeaking very quietly to each other, they find it reassuring.

Yes. Not quite like a bird, more of a squeeking.
I don't know why, I guess they're just calling to eachother.

Do you mean like "singing" as in the way the squeal because I thought it was something they just do. Like the way any animal makes a noise.
