Depends on your usage and how much your computer adds and deletes stuff. Husband had all kinds of programs on my computer to protect it and also had a defragger running nightly (but the usual is once a month). Add stuff all you want, but deleting is what you need a defragger for. He recommends a free d/l version of adAware. Also an anti-virus and running a anti-spyware every few days. Spyware will slow you down greatly that defragging will not help. For every spyware that it finds and deletes.. that's a new reason to defrag. Hope this helps. Lastly, For all the potections programs you get.. Get as much memory as you can afford to compensate for the slowness that the protection programs create. As much as the programs annoy me and slow me down, I'd rather be protected then have pop ups and spyware and the 'spegetti' mess that I'd have for not having all this stuff.

It's too often. Just keep in mind that the defragmenting process means reading, deleting and writing data to your hard-drive, that the number of hours the hard-drive can work properly is limited, and the capacity of the magnetic disks to be written and erased is also limited. So, if you want to exhaust your hard-drive quickly, this is the best way to do it! :-)
I don't deny that defragmenting your hard-drive can have some advantages regarding the speed of reading data and running programs, but nothing is free, and the price you pay is exhausting your hard-drive.
So find a ballance. I can't tell you how to do that, it depends on what is your computer doing, what kind of data you keep on the hard-drive, your hard-drive's age and many more. But I think three times a week is too, too often.
All the best!!!

this depends if u move large quantities of data every day, what defrag does is reallocating spaces, clusters on the harddrive, so empty once which were used before are put together and used cluster are put togehter, this increases the speed of accessing sotred information on the harddrive meaning programs can open faster (a little, don;t expect any miracles) if u r a normal pc user then 3 times per week is excessive, once a month would be more then sufficient, but of course maybe he enjoys doing it and makes him feel like a computer expert, my dad is that way, and i let him, it makes him happy so why not, of course it's annoying when u want to use the computer, but then simply stop it and continue it when u r done ;)

Defragging is a necessary step in keeping your computer operating at peak peformance. I cannot see any harm in defragging often.
For easy instructions that make defragging fast check out my website at http://www.notagz.com/tweaks/defrag/
Good luck!

3times a week is a bit excessive but it wont damage your machine.
One a month should be adequate for the average computer use.
If you are loading and removing alot of programs that time frame should be reduced.

Once a month should be enough. What's he trying to do, wear it out? Tell him to stop it or he'll go blind. Good luck! (he he)
