Unless you know how to deal with it, emotional pain hurts more and for longer.
Physical pain will heal according to how your body works, how fit you are, what diet you are eating, etc. All finite scenarios that will work according to the laws of physics.
Emotional pain often lasts a lifetime, but can be cured in an instant, if you know how. If you can change the neuro-associations linking the event to the pain, thus changing the entire frame of the event and changing what the event means, than you can cure the pain in an instant.
It's purely psychological. Unfortunately most people haven't a clue how to do this or that it is even possible.
You do this reframing and re ordering neuro associations naturally every day, but have not figured out, or been shown, how to actively engage your natural psychological tools in a way that serves you.
Most people hang on to pain, add new and additional and incorrect meanings to events that deepen and increase that pain as a way to meet their need to feel significant. the Poor me syndrome.
You then get this BS story to hang on to that gives you the right to feel bad whenever you think of it. "I have a good reason to feel this bad, this happened and that happened to me!!!" SO what, Sh!t happens to EVERYBODY! Sure you don't want to feel bad, but the sympathy makes you feel significant and connection you get and the certainty you feel sure feel GOOD don't they?
Physical pain hurts more when you know how to manage your emotional pain, that said when you know how to manage your mind, you can handle physical pain effectively too.
Emotional pain should ONLY be a trigger to change something. NOTHING MORE! learn that and you too can have a wonderful and happy life, you know ya wants one!

Physical pain often causes emotional issues. This then leads to a burden but I don't know if I would call that pain. To me a physical pain is more difficult to deal with as it can happen more spontaneously and has consequences for you and many others.

My wife died 10 years ago when I was 28 years of age, and it took 7 years before the intense pain started to ease. I've never felt physical pain that gets anywhere near, and I've been run over by a car and a motorbike.
