Because if you breath through your mouth you get stink breath.

Another reason might be the fact that breathing through your nasal cavity allows you to smell. Smell, evolutionarily speaking, helps you detect poison/bad environment. Smelling is safer than tasting. So it makes sense that it is more desirable to breath through your nose.

Desirable or advisable?
I prefer breathing through the mouth but it is advised to breathe through the nose as nose as a much more effecient flitering system than mouth!

The nostril has tiny hairs in it that help to trap dust and other pathogens in the air that you inhale to prevent them getting into your lungs and causing irritation and infection. Also, the moist mucous membranes in the nostrils help moisten the air and warm it, all of which are not achievable via mouth breathing.
