In the 80's, I wore a suit and tie to work. The women wore suits too. Today I wear Docker's and a knit golf shirt. And women wear just about anything. Today we're more comfortable. But I think we've lost a little bit with our casual attire. The women are less distracting and you can't tell a Senior VP from a stock boy by the expense of his suit anymore. Today they are both wearing denim.
What was remarkable about the 80's fashion was that it so identified your status. At work, you could tell a manager's rank by the color of his tie. The blue tie saluted the burgundy tie, which gave way to the yellow power tie, which was trumped by the pink power tie.
I have doubts about our ability to bring back the 80's dress codes. Although I do miss the way women dressed back then, I think we are more productive at work now, without the distractions. I suspect it will take another generation to re-discover that era before we may see a return of the suit and tie.

Leg warmers!! We need to bring those back. And stirrup pants with big bulky socks over them. Seriously there was nothing remarkable in eighties fashion. There's nothing I wore then that I would wear now, not in public anyway.
I love how you call this modern times. If 2006 is modern times what was the eighties? I was a kid in the eighties and I'm still in my twenties. It wasn't exactly the dark ages. You must be very young.

One word. Pantyhose.
The slopping up of todays womens fashions is horrible. There was a time when women liked to look like women. Heels, hose, short skirts. Today? Ugly capri's and flip flops. Eeew.
