He found out about drug testing and hair follicles is what he said on a talk show I dont remember which but in a more P.C intereview he stated, weight( of hair) time and change.

Same reason that Lenny Kravitz and Ludacris had. Hair is fun to change and they like the extremes so here you go! Grooming sucks after a while, and it's good for the hair to give it strenght!

He says that he was starting a new part of his life and it was time for change after 15 years of having dreads. It was basically a part of his transition into his new album and a publicity stunt as well. But i still LOVE him...
