I believe genetic modification can be used for good and to save people. For example a person with the 'down's syndrome' has an extra chromosome in his cells, If they could find a way to remove these chromosomes, or preferably halt the error right after the sperm meets with the egg, then the baby would be born without Down's Syndrome.
But science went to far, they are even making chickens grow with legs instead of wings so that butchers can make more cash. I've even heared on the discovery channel that in the future, science will eneble you to choose the looks and features of your baby and they will artifitially inseminate the female to have a baby like that.
I find it quite sad really...

Genetic modification is cool. Pharmaceutics, plant breeding and biological research has made enormous progress due to that technology. It will get even cooler in the future when artificial genes can be used instead of clones of natural genes.
Genetic modification can be abused, but so can every technology.
I don't believe genetic modification of humans has much future. The natural way of producing children works quite well. And parents want their children to inherit their genes, not to have artificial or cloned super-genes.

Its cool because we can actually eradicate dreaded diseases that are genetically based. for agriculture, it can supply us with better stuff to eat and avoid the bad ones. It could actually help us live longer when our basic apoptotic cells are redetermined... I am against it mainly because we will lose our indiviuality. we are altering the course of life and probably Darwin's theory of natural selection. We will all be perfect beings in this unperfect world and that wouldn't add spice to life.

With the amount of carcinogenic and mutagenic pollution that we pump into the environment, we are already modifying genetics...not only ours, but every species affected by said pollution.
