I prefer John - harder edged...but the two combined (even when one took the lead and wrote the songs solo) to make something special. As good as their solo work after the split was at times...there's only one Beatles. It was their sound, not any one individual. With the exception of revolution #9, did they ever write/put out a bad song? Some might have been lightweight, but all were solid.
I think my point is that you can't separate their contributions to the whole, even if it was just antagonizing/spurring the other to greater output, greater heights.

Ah, this is a question my friends and I have long debated..... They are quite different. Lennon sounds almost sarcastic and sardonic, as was his personality, Paul tries to seem cute, romantic, and angelic. But together, they created great lyrics, and wonderful music. Just one of those partnerships that cannot be re-created.For fans, their voices can always be identified in even their early songs. As for those "pretenders"that are sometimes used in movies etc. it is all too obvious they are not the real thing (voice wise I mean).Good question...
