Because women have something to gain, and men have something to lose.
Women wish for equality because that would improve their standing in society.
Men, who have advantages, would need to voluntarily give up these advantages in order for women to gain their equality. Sadly, this is against human nature.

What a misconception because I am a man but I struggle for equality. But the thing is, when I say equality, it means equal respect to one another. That also means equal rights. In that case to, men do struggle for equality. Think of Mahatma Gandhi or Martin Luther King, Jr. Both men and both struggling for equality. If the equality you are talking about is between men and women...men do not struggle for equality because men are not in the side that tradition dictates inferior so men do not bother. Personally though, I feel men and women are equal. I just don't want to argue about it because many will point out to things such as strength being brains over braun and the like.

On what do you base your assertion?
Which men? Which women? What aspect of equality?
I think that you will find that there are women and men struggling to achieve equality all over the world. In the same way there are men and women all over the world who are content with the situation that they experience around them.

When a country or society is run by one sex which thinks differently than the other sex, then the sex that is oppressed and suppressed wants equal rights (they think). They see something and want it, but often do not realize what all is involved in receiving that equality.
Such as "what do you mean I have to take the trash out now because of equal rights? I'd get dirty."
Women generally just want equal pay for equal work, and equal rights to speak their opinion, equal respect, but, at least in America women don't want to give up their position of being pampered by men and taken care of by men (generally speaking, not all women of course),, but you can't have it both ways to be truely equal.

There are some women in the world who DON'T struggle for equality, and there are some men who DO. Your question cannot be applied universally to the entire world.

Well here is one lady that does not want to be equal to men, what this has done for our women rights, is fighting in the war, & all of those other men things, why can't we just be ourselves & enjoy our lives. Most men know exactly what they want, they don't have to struggle, they already have it.

Equality for women is hard to achieve when the criteria are set by men. Are rates of lung cancer for men and women supposed to be the same and thus a goal of "equality" is at hand?

Because women are the ones that have been always discriminated against in this men leaden world.Because it is men leaden, even in the most emancipated countries, even if for some of us it is hard to see.The problem with the issue of equality is that many people do not understand what it refers to.It is certainly not women necessarily wearing male clothes and funny stuff like that.It is about more important things, which apparently may seem trifles, but which affect women and their self esteem terribly.Women who claim eqality don't claim to have male characteristics, but to be treated by society like men are treated,to have the same privileges as men have.I agree that some forms of "discrimination" are well justified, but society should not try to hide them as they didn't exist,on the contrary,it should be open about them.If one was born with certain weaknesses that make one inefficient in some fields, one should only blame destiny for it.But hypocrsy about these matters is what bothers me most.

Interesting question with some merit. However I believe the media is turning us into a more feminized culture were things like truth are not as important as someones feelings ( political correctness b.s.) and if you look at TV you will usually see some smart woman with some lame *** husband who can barely get his pants on. in the end I would say we should all struggle for equality
