You know there's no way you can stop him, if he wants to smoke? If you would punish him, it would make a counter effect, if you take away his resources, so he cant get cigarettes, he will ask someone for them. You can't watch him for 24 hrs either. Most probably he's got some friends that smoke too.
You should talk to him, without accusations, and explain how dangerous smoking is (if you have a direct example, tell him and show him - he's in an age when that could affect him). Try to interest him in sports - healthy lungs do not tolerate tobacco smoke.
P.S. - hardly anything will work if you or your spouse are smokers!

Are you the 11 year old who smokes but trying to find out what his father can possibly do to him? (sorry, your avatar... looks 11 years old... and your other questions sound 11 years old)

You've seen a bunch of answers already - all can happen in real life. Your dad will be very disapointed to find out for sure.

Do some research on internet: what happens to those who smoke before they had completed the physical development. print out some pictures. They are quite ugly.

I'm glad my mom made a huge deal out of it when I was playing with smoking, back in the days. (No, she didn't beat me up) Now, if nothing else, I don't have to pay like $10 daily fee to tobacco industry.

If only you knew where he picked the habit from then the problem is half solved.
Next you got to take him on a tour of hospitals, cancer foudations. Visit friends that have affected one way or the other by smoking.Get him all movies and shows that depict bad effects of smoking.

Dont force or tell him to stop smoking cause am sure he has heard that before. Dont put him on the defensive. You may not get immediate results but this worked for me. It will for you.

You have to find someone else to give him some idea that is is more cool to live and be able to breathe easily and not get sick than wheeze your way to an early grave because young people don't see the logic in what their parents suggest they just see that there parents are suggesting it. Often you can say exactly the same thing as someone they look up to first but it is not until some sports star or movie star or friend says something about it that they actually take any notice.

Are you a smoker,? If you are then, he's most likely, following suit. Or, it may be pressure from other kids. If he inhales, then I think, there isn't a whole lot you can do, cause he just may be already, addicted to them.I started at age 11, & I'm 57 now, & have had 3 strokes, but still can't quit.I would find out if he's already hooked first.

Find out where he's getting them and cut his supply. Then let your muscle show, cut his leisure activities to show your disinterest in his new hobby, turning off internet, video games, or other things he likes that you permit him to use that he himself does not own or did not buy, if he does, use the breaker to cut his rooms electricity. So he'll have to go into other rooms if he wants electricity and thusforth giving you better supervision and an opportunity to talk to him while he's out of his room by choice. Never punish or Bring violence to the family life. Give him choices, either of which suiting your needs as a parent. It's a way of keeping the control, but not making the child feel dictated or suffocated. Either you keep his leisure options cut off or he quits smoking. He has the choice. But you have the control. He doesn't see it from that perspective since it's the one with the choices that usually possesses the power. In the end, it's his choice.

1) Tell him he's going to die. Plain and simple.

2) Show him a picture of blackened lungs caused by smoking.

3) Let him see/hear pictures of people who have had throat complications due to smoking.

4) Let him smoke so much in one day that he gets sick and kicks the habit.
