Without some sort of reasoning such as that, people would be pretty much be careless with other's emotions, wreckless, and in many situations never have the full ability to motivate themselves to change. Regrets are lessons learned and once we are able to accept them as such, we can then use them to motivate change so that we can live up to our full potential and refrain from doing (or not doing ) them again.
