I think a very interesting essay you could do could be on the discovery of America. Since you need scholarly perspectives, there are few things which have more perspectives on it than that (well, not entirely true, but sounds good).
Look at the traditional story of Columbus' voyage in 1492, but then look at the evidence for Viking landing in Canada in the 10th-11th century, then even look at evidence which points to african or egyptian visitors in years prior to that (which gets spottier and spottier, of course).... and then as the coup de grace, look at the Native American migrations, and the current theories about that, since really, they are probably the first 'discoverers' of America. You can do a whole historiography of the idea of the 'discovery' of america, and how perspectives on it have changed (and have not) because of this evidence. It would make a killer essay.

Talk about how the Black Plague was necessary for creating the America we know. Crazy you say? Not at all, in fact it was quite simple. First the plague killed a lot of people and really broke the dominating influence of the church, for the next 100 or so years, the church lost more and more power, all stemming from the plague, then of course in 1517, there was the split in the Church, so now there are all these different kinds of churches. these new sects gave life to new ways of thinking, such as the idea of Puritanism, and with out the Puritans founding the English colonies, then those colonies would have been Catholic (had there not been the split) and if America was founded by Catholics it would not be the same at all.

As for the exchange over the years, I had to bullsh*t very practically the entire essay, and it ended up being like 6 pages lol. i do no longer even know what the hell I stated. And the final essay - i did no longer study it incorrect earlier each and every thing, yet i can work out how somebody would desire to. And particular, it replaced into an unfair question, yet in turn makes it in basic terms as honest for everone else, being with a bit of luck the attempt would be on a extensive curve. i think of I have been given a 4 or 5, yet i'm not sure. Obviously there are many many subjects to choose from. What your tutor is looking for in simple terms is what Historians, writers, academics, artists and contemporaries etc have had to say about the person or events you decide to choose. Once you've chosen your subject, a good starting point is to research what their contemporaries, people of their era thought and wrote about them or the event. You can then go on to examine changing or concurring points of view through the ages and also in our present time.
Primary sources are available to browse on the Internet and these can include art, architecture and literature of the time.
If you decide on your subject and then ask the question again, I could perhaps give you a more detailed and specific answer.

Pick something you are interested in. Also, pick something that there are a lot of articles written on and paintings done about. War is fairly good for inspiring the artistic community as well as large scale famines or diseases like The Black Plague.
Actually, the Black Plague would be a good one. There was a lot of controversy over it in the Middle Ages. Many people belived it was the work of the devil and many people were executed for being witches and warlocks. Meanwhile it was all caused by a superstitious fear of cats. No cats to eat the rats, rats bring vermin, vermin causes disease.
Anyway, artists, politicians, religious leaders and philisophers of that time all had something to say about it and there are lots of resources to access these reports.
Just a suggestion. Good luck.

How about the man who developed HTML language. He never took a dime for it. He freely gave it away. He was only recently acknowledge. There's also the woman, who with her husband developed Television. She died last month. you could also write something about the man who invented cellular at Motorola in 1974. All three of these have had a dramatic influence on the lives of humans, all over the world. You might even consider Gene Kelly. Though an entertainment artist, he was the one who bought a defunct project from a former Nazi German company. That was magnetic audio tape. Audio tapes soon became video tapes, which soon became data storage tapes, which soon became magnetic harddrives, flash cards, and bubble memory. All because he wanted to find a way to pre-record his shows for radio.
Simply put, consider the less obvious choices.
