If the year on the back of the hotwheels package is differant from the year on the bottom of the car, What one do you go by ?

Mattel often Re-uses and retools castings to make cars be more marketable. The Date on the package is the issuance date, however, the date on the car is the date of the original issue of cast. Many novices confuse this as the car being old and "collectable."

Here is a great Example. Splittin' Image.
The original Issue date was 1968
It was "retooled" and issued in 1993 as part of the 25th Anniv. Line
It is now in mainstream packaging, but still has 1968 on the base of the car.

bottom of car is when it was made, it may not have been sold at this earlier date and packaged later, as a collector probably not worth the same amount as the same car in the earlier packaging

the one on the box .the one on the car was just casting number
