I am sorry about the loss of your baby. I am assuming they did a TORCH panel to try to find out the cause of the demise? Was there an autopsy performed or was the placenta sent to pathology for analysis?

Many people have antibodies to CMV, it's a mild infection similar to a flu or mono. The problem is when you get it for the first time during pregnancy, not when you've already had it. CMV can reoccur, like herpes does, but recurrent infections usually do not cause a problem for pregnant women or their fetuses.

You will most likely always test positive for CMV in the future but that does not mean you are infectious, and it shouldn't hurt the baby, it only shows that you have had the infection previously. The level of the antibodies in your blood should tell the doctor if this is a recent or past infection.

Again, an estimated 75% of people have Herpes Simplex I and an estimated 25% have Herpes Simplex II. Please do not let others put you down for this, you deserve an answer to your question. Herpes is nothing to be ashamed of, it happens to the best of us - and herpes does not necessarily hurt the baby. Lots of moms with herpes have babies every day without incident and without passing it on to their babies. But again, same story as the the CMV, with an old herpes infection you will always show antibodies but it will not cause problems, a recent herpes infection you got while pregnant woudl be a problem.

Your doctor definitely needs to give you some more answers and assist you in coming up with a plan for your next pregnancy so you can ease your mind. Please schedule an appt with your health care provider to discuss your concerns. Again, the antibodies themselves in your blood should not be a cause for concern, it is a recent, first time infection that causes problems.

This isn't something someone here can help you with. You need to see a doctor. Before you try to get pregnant again, i would seriously consider a lifestyle change. A little less on the risky side, perhaps?

Very good answer from Babynurse. Sorry for your loss. I lost twins in the 20th week and was devastated. GBS was found in the pathology. Group B Strep. I was told it comes and goes and it's not know for sure if it can cause completely the loss of the babies. Please don't blame yourself. Be good to yourself and read lots and just take good care of yourself. Bless you.
