im not a huge stoner or anything but i dont feel weed is a very bad thing at all. infact i think that weed is blamed and really in the end its the own person fault getting addicting to crazy drugs. I also think that if it was legalized it would no longer be a gate way drug because it would disconect the stoner from the dealer, closing the majority of offers for other drugs...ex: bob buys weed from bill, and bill also offers bob some Exstacy. so with that in mind... if givin the cituation where weed has been legal for years and tobacco has been ilegal , you would have to say tobacco is a gateway drug because it would have to be ilegally delt therefor when bob goes to buy tobacco from bill, bill also offers him ecstacy opening the gateway to other drugs

Very good point.

No, I don't think weed is a gateway drug either. I have known many people who have abused drugs, mostly crank, meth and crack over the years and while they mostly started out smoking weed, my dad has smoked weed since he was a teenager and he has never done any other drug. That to me is evidence that weed should not be termed a "gateway" drug.

I don't think it is the mj's "fault" that people who use it might progress to other drugs- that is entirely up to the person and their desire to push the limits and a get a better high. I've smoked mj a few times, but I have absolutely no desire to move up to bigger and "better" drugs, again evidence to me that weed is not a "gateway" drug.

Definately not. It is all down to attitude and state of mind. The people you hang around makes a difference too. I use party drugs and weed but only maybe a couple of times a year.

Most of the people I know who use weed hold down jobs, have good relationships, have lots of friends, are talented musically or artistically and don't use any other drugs except maybe the holy trinity (nicotine, alcohol, caffeine). Most of the people I know who have tried harder drugs do not like pot.

I don't believe it is.. A lot of people think it is. They tend to be the ones who've never smoked pot to begin with. They are the same people that think violent video games cause school shooting.. You blame the person, not what they do. Everyone handles things different, some people have addictive personalities, others don't..

In a social context yes. In western countries if you start on the weed you'll inevitably progress to hash ("same stuff really innit?") and you'll be more likely to say yes to acid, e, and coke. It just gets you in a positive yes-mode over a period of time. And once you start with the coke...

Anything can be a gateway when placed in the wrong hands. I'm anti-pot because It doesn't fit into my lifestyle. But if it fits into yours and you can get away with it have at it.
