Many cultures in Australia too. Many speak their language and that's ok.
Am sure is you went to another non-English speaking country you would speak your native language with friends.

This is bit true. Every language has its features. Some people like to speak in their own language other would prefer to speak in english when they are out with firends. English has become an international language and it feels like they have started speaking in their own language when they are moving around , but the thing is english is just spoken so much of the time that when other language is spoken it clicks in the mind which make it curious.

1. Because they probably dont want you to understand what they are talking about.
2. America is a free country, you can speak any language you want to speak. There is no law that says, You are in America, therefore you have to speak English.
3. They are just trying to piss of Americans, LOL
4. They are damn proud to speak a foreign language.
Personally, I speak Persian, and I do it more because I like to keep my language strong, so I don't ever forget it, and I am proud of my language, and , I like to keep people curious, Huh, what's he talking about..... And my fav., it's a free country, make me speak English. And besides, why speak English, it's the world's easiest language, why not speak somethjing that sounds much more prettier and charming. :-)

LOL. I hate it when people do that. Back in high school a friend and I went to a nail salon where everyone was speaking Chinese. So we decided to be jerks and started speaking some elementary Spanish. Nothing we said made sense, but the manicurists almost sh*t themselves! I always wanted to go to another country and just talk about every single person that went by lol.

I really have no idea but i do know what you mean, sometimes ppl just go into that accent without realising it. If i speak to someone posh i usually start sounding posh when i talk to them and i don't realise i'm doing it. Same with an australian if one came up to you and said "Goodday mate" i would probably say "Goodday" in their accent without thinking about it. It's probably something to do with the brain sending messages around the body tellin you "when in rome, do as the romans do....." or that somehow your languages are different if you speak in a different accent.

I'm sure to understand ur question!
U don't know why foreign people don't speack english when they are in us ?
In my opinion, if they speack with an american, it's normal, he must try to speack english but if he speack with someone of his country, I don't see the interest to speack english.
Do u speack italian when u go in Italia ????
