The story I've heard goes like this:

This was early days of the US.
Custom officer was checking the the new freight. Every package and accompanying documents that he checked and approved received this lettering O.K. wich supposed to mean "All Correct" Only he was a bit illiterate...

According to an articke that was put in my achievement test, it is either the wrong spelling of All Correct (Ol Korekt) or Old Kinderhook but I forgot what that means. Is that OK? Another thing is that OK is now made to okay so you can also consider this the full form of OK.

During Van Buren's presidential campaign of 1836 supporters popularized his nickname "Old Kinderhook," which was abbreviated as "OK." "OK Clubs" were set up. This is one possible origin of the expression "OK," although there are many other possible origins, and the topic is much disputed.
